Erome is a postdoctoral research scholar in the College of Pharmacy. She earned her PhD from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with Jiantao Guo, training in biochemistry and chemical biology for applications in protein engineering, unnatural amino acid incorporation, and green chemistry. In 2019, she joined UK’s Pharmaceutical Sciences department as a joint postdoc with Steven Van Lanen and Jon Thorson. Her research focuses on studying the biosynthetic pathway of compounds that display strong anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties. Her research interests include natural products, biocatalysis, protein engineering, bioorganic chemistry, and green chemistry. Erome is originally from Ethiopia and is an astronomy enthusiast who also enjoys mentoring, reading, and Gospel music.
